I am slowly gathering items for a future workshop in making jewellery from bits of old instruments for The Jewellery Project. A Melbourne jewellery maker is interested in working with me in the initial stages to work out how best to use the materials, so that when the workshop gets organised, we’ll have some tips for the craftspeople.
In the meantime, if you’re interested to see what kind of jewellery can be made from bits of instruments, particularly old guitar strings, check out these sites:
- Guitar string rings on Etsy
- The Ode Street Tribune posts about a local musician who also makes jewellery from recycled instruments
- Upbeat Jewellery in Los Angeles
- Strings… and a dare, where the first piece was made as a momento mori
Stay tuned: the first part of Chapter One of Kitty and Cadaver – Not the Zombie Apocalypse will be posted in the first week of June.
